Privacy policy

This policy explains how Justine Bevilacqua, the Australian operator of The Study Nook, handles personal information under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. It also applies to people using the service outside Australia, subject to any additional rights under local law.

Information we collect

We collect the email address you use for password-free sign-in. We also store the content you choose to add, including synthesis text, source names and links, tags, entry type, depth, experiments, outcomes, archived entries, connections and connection why-notes.

How we use it

We use this information to provide, secure and maintain your account, show your saved entries, and provide features you request. Your entry content is private to your account and is not made public through The Study Nook.

Storage and security

Account and entry data is stored using Supabase infrastructure. Access controls restrict saved entries and connections to the signed-in owner. No online service can promise absolute security, but reasonable technical and organisational safeguards are used.

Sessions

Cookies or browser local storage may be used to keep you signed in, protect your session and remember essential service state. These are required for the service to work.

Optional third-party AI connections

If you choose to connect Claude, ChatGPT or another MCP-compatible service, information that you ask that service to retrieve may be sent to that provider under its own privacy terms. The Study Nook does not connect an AI provider without your action and approval.

Sharing and sale

We do not sell personal information. Information may be processed by service providers needed to operate and secure the service, or disclosed when required by law.

Your choices

You can download all entries and connections from Settings. You can archive or delete individual entries, or permanently delete your account and all associated data. You may also ask to access or correct personal information.

International users

Data may be processed in countries other than your own. Local privacy laws may give you additional access, correction, deletion, objection or complaint rights.

For a privacy question, correction request or complaint, contact Justine Bevilacqua through justinebevilacqua.substack.com. We will consider privacy complaints and respond within a reasonable time. Australian users may also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version and date will be posted here. Material changes will also be communicated through the service or the account email where practical.
